Welcome, Summer Sun!

Welcome, Summer Sun!

We're excited to introduce the newest member of our team, Summer Sun! Summer will be joining the Mercku team as a Business Analyst in a contract role, working closely with Business Development building strong case studies and analyzing current tech markets while assisting the Marketing Team in content creation. She currently resides in Beijing and has had very interesting experiences throughout her career.

Summer has been working remotely with us now for two weeks now, and I had a quick chat to get to know her a bit more.

Question 1: What are some of the things you've been doing to stay connected with your loved ones during this time?

A: I send a lot of gifts for my parents and spoil them. It makes them feel I'm around them even when we're apart. As for friends, we are slightly sluggish and all in excellent terms, it doesn't matter if we don't see each other for a few months, I'm confident that we will still be close when COVID-19 ends.

Question 2: Why did you want to join our team at Mercku?

A: I like the direction Mercku is driving towards, and I'm interested in their incorporation of advanced technologies in their products. COVID-19 has made me realize how much modern technology is currently impacting our lives and the unimaginable level of impact in the future. I feel glad to be participating in a company with a bright future.

Question 3: What are some of the things that you do to innovate in your daily life?

A: I enjoy doing nail art; changing the colour and style of my nails makes me feel good about myself! I also like to frequently rearrange paintings and posters on my wall. The alterations make me feel that I am in a different space.

Question 4: What aspects of the job are you excited about?

A: I am Chinese and lived in Canada for many years. I always wished there would be an opportunity that allows me to work abroad but also maintaining connections to my roots. Mercku has offices worldwide including Toronto, Berlin, and Chengdu, and I am looking forward to working with all the teams to bring improvements to the business.

Question 5: What are some of your hobbies?

A: I like to travel to places that not known by many people, visit local markets, eat street food, and talk to the locals even without knowing their languages.

I also like ancient architectures, standing inside and reading scripts I don't fully understand, attempting to imagine stories that once happened there.

I love to see exhibitions, when I see a piece of artwork I really adored but only viewed in books placed right in front of me, it often strikes me with powerful emotions, and it also makes me feel that there are many possibilities in life.

I also love to shop at vintage markets. I think used objects have more charm.

Question 6: Tell us 3 more interesting things about yourself!

A: 1) I lived in Italy for one year so I can speak Italian. Ciao Tutti! 2) I went to an archaeology expedition in the Republic of Georgia and excavated a 7000-year-old spoon (it was made of bones). 3) I've eaten a living octopus, and it was surprisingly delicious.
